Leadership Development

OSA has designed and presented customized leadership development programs for over 10 years to government agencies, hospitals, associations, and private companies. A major part of our business focuses on leadership. Bob Morris has authored refereed articles (see our Publications page) on the topic as well as done national presentations.

One solution that a number of clients have elected is executive coaching which involves one on one sessions over a contracted period of time with a supervisor, manager, director, or the like. Buck Rhyme provides such coaching for the UW Executive Education Program as well as private clients.

Leadership Academy
Another solution that a number of clients have found to be of great benefit is the Leadership Academy. The Academy is designed for organizations committed to elevating performance beyond the next level. It is a comprehensive and systematic approach to building greater employee engagement, strengthening internal succession planning, and enhancing the exercise of leadership across all levels of the enterprise. We rigorously track progress, emphasize accountability for all participants, and measure outcomes with hard data. By the end of the Academy, we demonstrate that it pays for itself through better business results and stronger leadership.

Our approach uses an organization-specific curriculum comprised of six customized courses, a nationally normed, 360-degree individual leadership assessment, personal development goals and action plans, and team business projects targeted at improving organizational performance.

The Academy is also different because it uses a custom designed approach to promote individual and organizational learning. Each course has a case study based upon a current business challenge facing the organization. All team business projects are focused on one of three outcomes: increasing revenue, decreasing costs, or improving customer satisfaction. For example, one team project achieved a $220,000 cost reduction on a construction project.

Academy Results

The OSA Leadership Academy delivers multiple benefits to organizations interested in an integrated approach to leadership development. According to a recent follow-up study of Academy graduates, participants learned new behaviors, applied their learning to workplace situations, and helped their enterprise its achieve strategic objectives better. The study across multiple business sectors showed:
91% of the graduates expressed increased confidence in their personal leadership ability

85% reported they had developed improved collaboration and personal networks

72% expressed improved leadership effectiveness as perceived by colleagues and direct reports

66% reported elevated teamwork and communication in the company

58% documented improved business results at the department or business unit level.
